Among our compatriots who honor the Dodecanese name in America is the new Metropolitan of New Jersey Apostolos Koufalakis, an enlightened clergyman who loved and is loved by his flock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He devoted himself to his ecclesiastical function in the capacity of father as well as deacon. He tended his flock in a spirit of philanthropy, love and mercy. He was friendly, comforting and very approachable. He was the father and at the same time the child of Omogenia, who loved him and embraced him as her own child. The feelings were mutual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a reward for his qualities came the distinctions given to him from time to time by people and institutions. At the beginning, as an archimandrite, he took over as the priestly superior of Saint Dimitrius and Saint Ekaterina in Astoria, and then he was appointed chancellor in the metropolis of San Francisco. He was subsequently elected Bishop of Media and is now about to take over as Metropolitan of New Jersey. But the greatest and most important distinction is the undeniable fact that he established himself in the consciousness of his flock as a man of high morals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many times, the then archimandrite Apostolos attended the meetings of the Dodecanese Federation. He was especially loved by the Dodecanesian community. He attended all its collective events. Every year, he officiated at the Celebration of Incorporation of the Dodecanese, and the Pandodecanesian memorial service, cut the Vasilopita of the Dodecanesian Federation, swore in the Board of Directors and attended its meetings. Among others, in 2009 in his honor, the Dodecanesian Federation organized a Reception in his honor at the Terrace on the Park and issued a commemorative album with rich historical content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
