Just as Kolokotronis with his lads and Miaoulis with his sailors fought for the liberation of Greece, so Rigas Feraios with his \u201cThourio\u201d and \u201cCharter\u201d fought for the same cause. Others fought with the American Armed Forces or cooperated with the American Secret Service, others tried through the press and others sought the help of American academics, religious leaders and politicians, all with one goal, the liberating of the Dodecanese. Lazaros Kontoveros, from his own stand, like Rigas with his \u201cCharter\u201d, fought with his talent, painting, inspiring the Dodecanese people of America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lazaros Kontoveros was born in Nisyros on January 1, 1884, his ancestor was Diakogiorgis Pavlou, who in 1823 represented Nisyros in the National Assembly of Astros. He immigrated to America very young. He lived most of his years in Lowell, MA where he married Sevasti Solomonidou. In the same city he left his last breath on October 1, 1974.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lazaros Kontoveros studied fine arts at the Museum of Arts and Industrial Arts schools in Boston and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia. Gifted with great talent, his designs are related to performances from Ancient Greece. Most of those attributed to the Dodecanese refer to Nisyros, published in Nisyrian albums and bulletins.
