Another one of the most favorite songs sung by the Italian soldiers in Karpathos was the well-known Neapolitan song \u201cSanta Lucia Luntana\u201d written in 1919 by Giovanni Gaeta known as E.A. Mario. Also, a film entitled Santa Lucia Luntana was released in 1931.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The song evokes a sense of longing and melancholy for the distant shores of Santa Lucia, a neighborhood in Naples which took its name from the basilica of Santa Lucia of Mare in the area. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the people departing to distant lands singing proudly of their Neapolitan heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
