J. Mackenzie set sail with the \u201cArmadillo\u201d from Aplotheka (Bozakkale) bound for Cyprus. From the mouth of the harbor, he saw the sails of two caiques, one bound for Rhodes and the other coming towards Symi. He judged that the latter (Montefalcone) should pass near Cape Alepo. He returned to Bozakkale and left with a detachment and Captains Beckinsale and Klosser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They sailed under the protection of the Turkish coast until they were about two and a half miles from the coast, and then developed a speed of 8 knots to deal with Montefalcone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They hoisted the British Navy flag and when \u201cArmadillo\u201d got within 300 yards, the crew of the \u201cArmadillo\u201d sprang from behind the canvases with their guns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saitas, who spoke Italian, ordered them to lower the Italian flag and sails and sail for the Turkish coast. Everyone raised their hands as \u201cArmadillo\u201d passed by. Mackenzie took out Montefalcone\u2019s skipper and put Beckinsale and Klosser on board. It seems that the Italians mistook \u201cArmadillo\u201d for a Turkish patrol boat and the absence of a flag confused them, until the appearance of the British Naval flag and the half-naked bearded armed men completely surprised and stunned them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They pulled Montefalcone towards the Turkish coast to one of the hideouts, Aspromiti, twenty miles to the west. And further west, Mackenzie rendezvoused with the \u201cSaint John\u201d on which the bulk of the cargo and the Italians were carried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the attachment Mackenzie added S.S.M. Medley from \u201cSaint John\u201d and left the \u201cMontefalcone\u201d with his own engineer making a crew of four and took one more passenger in the \u201cArmadillo\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSaint John\u201d and the \u201cArmadillo\u201d left the next morning at different times, leaving the others to decide on Montefalcone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mackenzie waited for \u201cSaint John\u201d two miles beyond Kastellorizo and from there they sailed in company with \u201cArmadillo\u201d for Famagusta.
