Karpathian Personalities in America \u2013 Frank Epitropoulos (1897-1985)<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frank J. Epitropoulos of Margaro (his mother\u2019s name, to distinguish him from his cousin with the same name) was born in Othos on October 18, 1897. When he was only three years old, he left for Piraeus where he learned his first letters. At a young age he immigrated to America for a better future. During the day he worked hard and at night he went to night High School, to help his family and himself at the same time. He was distinguished for his friendliness and developed into a good and successful businessman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Epitropoulos was a founding member of KEPA and for more than 50 years he served its purposes from an ordinary member to as high as President. He was a founding member of the Othitian society \u201cHomer\u201d, which he served in all its positions and was its biggest benefactor. He worked with zeal and encouraged the young people to love the society, their village and Karpathos. In recognition of his services and generosity, \u201cHomer\u201d declared him a Great Benefactor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many times, he showed his love for Karpathos and his village: he financially supported the holy institutions of the Metropolis of Karpathos and donated generously to the school of his village, the Community Hall, the churches, the Educational Association and Philoptochos. The Othos Community and the school declared him a Great Benefactor and Metropolitan Apostolos honored him accordingly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He never forgot the Karpathian community of Athens and Piraeus, where he spent his childhood. During the years of the Italian occupation, he sent financial aid to the Dodecanese school, the \u201cDodecanese Melissa\u201d and other patriotic organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
