\u0394\u03a3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The Dodecanese Federation of America continues its work united and strong<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>By Manolis Cassotis<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the liberation and integration of the Dodecanese with Greece and the accomplishment of the purposes for which it was founded, the Dodecanese Youth of America was dissolved, and the National Dodecanese Council of America limited its activities. Thus, it became necessary to create a new pan-Dodecanese organization that would represent the Dodecanese community and contribute to the new problems that the Dodecanese had to face. On April 13, 1950, the representatives of the Dodecanese societies met and decided to establish the Dodecanese Federation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, and for 75 years, the Dodecanese Federation has continued its national and patriotic activities unabated, participating in all Greek American events and gatherings, taking the lead in the Cyprus and Macedonian issues. It has also shown interest in American politics, supporting Greek American and philhellene American politicians. At the same time, it has remained faithful and committed to the historical and cultural tradition of the Dodecanese. Every year, with splendor, celebrates the anniversary of the Integration of the Dodecanese to Greece, in which Dodecanese ministers, parliamentarians and other officials come from Greece to participate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the term of the outgoing Board of Directors, under the presidency of Maria Marangou, coincided with the coronavirus epidemic, it managed to raise the work of the Federation even higher. It continued to celebrate the Integration Day with the same brilliance and with the presentation on Cosmos FM. In 2021, when the established celebration could not take place, due to the coronavirus, its celebration was held via video.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federation, in collaboration with the Dodecanese House of Letters and Arts in Rhodes, published Manolis Makris\u2019 book \u201cThe Dodecanese in the National Uprising of 1821\u201d in Greek and English, translated by Manolis Cassotis and Demosthenes Triantafyllou. The printing costs of both editions were borne by Demosthenes Triantafyllou in memory of his wife. The book presentation also took place in America, and a copy of the English edition was sent to 50 of the largest libraries in America and universities that have Greek programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federation collaborated and participated in many events of the other Dodecanese societies. In October 2019, it rented a bus and took part in the Center for Greek Studies of the University of Connecticut, where the Pan-Rhodian Association \u201cApollo\u201d presented the \u201cBloody Easter of Rhodes in 1919\u201d. The Federation also took part in a Pan-Dodecanese symposium that took place in 2022 in Rhodes. At the same time, the Federation has established relations of friendship and cooperation with the sister Dodecanese Federations of Athens and Rhodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As every year, the Federation participates with its own float in the National Parade of March 25<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;1821 on 5<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Avenue in New York. Also, in addition to the Dodecanese, the Federation is present at dozens Greek American events and programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federation also does not forget its suffering compatriots. In collaboration with the Dodecanese Youth, which is an integral part of the Dodecanese Federation, it raised a respectable amount to help a young child from Rhodes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under these circumstances, the General Assembly of the Federation was held on February 2<sup>nd<\/sup>, at the \u201cNissyriko House\u201d in Astoria, New York. In addition to the representatives of the societies, the former presidents of the Dodecanese Federation, Demosthenes Triantafyllou and Theologos Tiliakos, were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The election of the new Board of Directors followed with the following composition: President Nikos Kartalis, 1<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;Vice President Adamantia Mari, 2<sup>nd<\/sup>&nbsp;Vice President Dimitris Kontos, General Secretary Zoe Pilios, Special Secretary Maria Marangos, Treasurer Evdokia Kampouri, Assistant Treasurer Sotiria Kontou, members: Manolis Stamatis, John Smalios, Andreas Goustas, Dimitris Xanthos, Michael Zoulis, Manolis Papazoglou, Vasilis Michaelides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is particularly pleasant to note that most of the members of the Board are young people who promise to continue the long-standing work of the Federation.
