The Dodecanese Youth of America, for 91 years continues its activities<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1934, the Dodecanese Youth of America was founded with the aim of liberating the Dodecanese and integrating our islands with Greece. But, even after the realization of its purpose (March 7, 1948), the following generations continued its activities and participation in every national struggle. The Dodecanese Youth was present against the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, Turkey\u2019s claims in the Aegean, the falsification of history for Greek Macedonia and in every national event, and every year participates in the National Parade of March 25th<\/sup> on 5th<\/sup> Avenue in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n

At the same time, the Dodecanese Youth has focused and continues to focus its interest on the cultural tradition of the Dodecanese and on education. It has created a traditional orchestra, choir and dance group with which it participates in the annual celebration of the Integration of the Dodecanese with Greece and in other events. It has also offered several scholarships to Dodecanese students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, the Dodecanese Youth does not forget our suffering compatriots who live in the Dodecanese. Last year, on May 18, it organized a \u201cGreek Evening\u201d at the Stathakion Megaron to help a suffering young man in Rhodes. The proceeds from the event and from individual and society donations exceeded $20,000, which was sent to their destination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Continuing its activities the Dodecanese Youth, on February 15th<\/sup>, organized a traditional evening at the \u201cKefalonian House\u201d with traditional dances and songs. The Kefalonian and Karpathian Youth and several members from the Youth of Crete, Chios and Lemnos participated. They had fun with DJ Poti of Panagiotis Theologitis and with the Cretan folk orchestra (Lyra, violin, lute) of Pavlos and Stavros Paterakis.<\/p>\n\n\n

The event was honored with the presence of the President of the Dodecanese Federation Maria Marangos, the presidents of Rhodes Nikos Kartalis, Symi Dimitris Kontos, Kalymnos Yiannis Smalios, and several members from Nisyros, Tilos and Leros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also in attendance were Professor and Director of the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies at Queens College Gerasimos Katsan, Professor Nick Alexiou and Professor Maria Athanasopoulou. As announced by the president of the Dodecanese Youth, Vasilis Michaelides, part of the proceeds from the event will be allocated to the Archives and the Center for Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies, which the Dodecanese Youth was invited to visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The composition of the Board of Directors of the Dodecanese Youth is as follows: president Vasilis Michaelides, vice president Manolis Smalios, general secretary Alisis Benis, special secretary Maria Genas, treasurer Kalliopi Marangos, members Sotiria Kontos, Zoe Pilios and Public Relations Maria Mouzakitis.<\/p>\n\n\n
