While livestock belonged to men, the large landholdings belonged to the \u201cKanakares\u201d (women with large agricultural property) along with the \u201ckolainas\u201d (string with gold coins). Even the houses where the Karpathians lived belonged to women, who either inherited them from their mothers, if they were first-born daughters, or were built by their fathers. There were of course also \u201cKanakarides\u201d (with large agricultural property), but not like the \u201cKanakares\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once, a Karpathian had to build a house for his second daughter, as he was obliged, and asked his eldest daughter to grant him a plot land from the extensive real estate she would inherit. In other parts of Greece, he would be derogatorily called \u201csogabros\u201d (man without house), but in Karpathos it was considered natural and acceptable. This raises the question: Was there Gynecocracy or Matriarchy in Karpathos?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to Greek mythology, the Amazons were a warlike people ruled by women who used their men as slaves and for reproduction.
