In this world, we are all passers-by and each one in his passage from this life leaves something behind to be remembered by those who will follow him on the eternal journey. This is how the late Vasilis Niotis will remain smiling and full of kindness in the memory of all the people who knew, worked, talked, ate, drank and had fun with him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was also from the generation of the last immigrant stream, from Greece to America, in the 1965-75 decade. He came full of dreams and hopes but with courage and will, to work, to progress and to go forward. He worked hard in restaurants, and soon, along with relatives, acquired the Parsonage Diner, and later acquired the Seaport and other diners on his own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A sociable man, he was involved in the Greek American community and the place where he was born. He was a member of the Pigadiotans\u2019 society \u201cPoseidon\u201d of Karpathos and participated in the society\u2019s events. At the society\u2019s annual event, he supervised the preparation of the food and many times, with his brothers, they donated and cooked the fish. Also, with his brothers, they donated the fish for Vagelistras\u2019 celebration in Karpathos.<\/p>\n\n\n

He took pleasure in donating to his relatives and friends most of the fish he caught, the deer he brought back from hunting, and the fruits and vegetables he grew in his garden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After his retirement, he spent the summers in Karpathos, and since he came from a maritime family, he was involved with the sea. During the day he fished for \u201cscadrupia\u201d (red bass fish) with \u201ckatheti\u201d (fishing line with several hooks), and at night, out in the open sea with \u201cperifani\u201d (light) he fished \u201cargiadia\u201d (squids).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vangelistra\u2019s bell carried to Karpathos the news of his passing from this life.<\/p>\n\n\n
